As part of Kooyong Group’s commitment to giving back to the medical community, we are proud to support Hand n Hand (Helping Australian & New Zealand Nurses and Doctors), a free, confidential peer support service for health professionals.
Founded in March 2020 in far north QLD, Hand n Hand was initially a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the growing emotional burden that came with it. Dr Tahnee Bridson, one of the organisations founders, is humbled by it’s progress.
To be honest, we have been amazed with the speed and enthusiasm with which peer support has been adopted.
Today, hundreds of participants and volunteer facilitators have signed up to be a part of the growing peer support movement, from just about every healthcare profession and study imaginable.
What we quickly discovered is that there is an ongoing need for peer support beyond the pandemic, and are making efforts to turn Hand-n-Hand into a sustainable, long-term solution that can provide peer support for generations of healthcare workers to come.
It’s 100% free, confidential, and does not involve any medical or psychiatric treatment. Their peer support facilitators all have extensive mental health training.
Support is available for doctors, nurses, allied health, paramedics, healthcare students and non-clinical health staff with two types available:
-
Individual Peer Support: You will be matched to a volunteer from a similar field and level of training.
-
Group Peer Support: You will be matched in a group with others from a similar field and level of training, and facilitated by a Hand-n-Hand volunteer.
